sand beach laid before me, bordered by

Daily life
Waking up each morning, I now
hear the sound of the construction and
the rooster that lives in my neighbor-
hood. That’s how I know it’s time to
head out to get something for breakfast.
Usually, I buy a fresh-baked baguette for
about VND3,000 and 10 large brown
farm eggs for VND20,000. For a change,
I might pick up a dragon fruit. These
bright pink fruits are tender white on the
inside with a sweet, soft flavour.
Despite the low cost of living, I
do find the quality of life is high. The
low prices allow me to eat out often.
Although there a number of restaurants
in Nha Trang serving American foods, I
am working my way through the menu
of a Vietnamese restaurant where items
are around VND40,000. My current fa-
vorite is mi quang thap cam, a bowl of
thick yellow noodles, pork, chicken, a
hard-boiled quail egg and various veg-
etables all soaking in a yellow broth.
Living in a place where tempera-
tures range from around 25 to 32 de-
grees celsius on a typical day, American
styles of dress are acceptable. No one
minds that I wear shorts here. Even the
Vietnamese wear them, unlike in many
parts of Asia where modesty often takes
precedence over comfort. It’s appreci-
ated by all when the ocean breeze cools
things down a bit.
I honestly think the modest size of
Nha Trang is ideal for tranquility and fu-
ture retirement. Each day, the chances
are that I’ll run into someone I know
and we’ll make plans to get together
later. This is a small enough city that,
after you’ve been here a while, you are
always running into the same people.
Working in Nha Trang has been
very pleasant. TOP TEAM has been like
a family to me. Despite all the rumours
about how things work around here,
I have found this company to be very
well organised. TOP TEAM is a team-
building company that builds and de-
velops shared goals, interdependence,
trust, commitment and accountability
among team members for many com-
panies both in Vietnam and abroad. I
am proud and glad to be a part of the
family of this company.
So far, living within a different cul-
ture is not proving stressful; however I
choose to spend each day, I know that I
will have no stress. The weather is near-
perfect day after day, and day-to-day
life is forever relaxing. What’s more, I
find the people are magnificent. Over-
all, I feel at home here and I have fallen
in love with the city.
