“Swing for the Kids” once again met its intended purpose - raising money to as-
sist less-fortunate students around the country. Writes

T
he eighth “Swing for the Kids”
marked another fruitful charity
event with Vietnam’s diplomatic
and business community rais-
ing funds to assist underprivileged kids
nationwide in their schooling.
From Hanoi it’s only 40 kilometres
to Dong Mo Kings’ Island Golf Club,
where the prestigious charitable golf
tournament was held. Early morning
rain was a concern, but luckily the
weather had cleared by noon. The tour-
nament’s organising board was pleased
that the tournament was to be held
under fine weather, on the course’s fa-
vourable terrain and with a happy spirit
among the golfers.
More than 140 golfers from dip-
lomatic corps, international organisa-
tions, and enterprises played at the
tournament. An awards ceremony
was held in the evening of the same
day.
The prime aim of the tournament
is to raise funds to help poor students
with excellent studies and to create a
meeting point for golfers to meet and
exchange experiences.
Despite the difficult circumstanc-
es enterprises have encountered dur-
ing these troubled economic times,
“Swing for the Kids” continues to cap-
ture the imagination, enthusiasm and
support of donors and the wider golf-
ing community.
Nguyen Anh Tuan,
Vietnam Invest-
ment Review
’s Editor-in-Chief, who is
also head of the organising board, said
that the Swing for the Kids this year
had raised an estimated VND900 mil-
lion ($42,700) in cash and VND324 mil-
lion ($15,500) in scholarships this year
to aid academically-talented but disad-
vantaged students.
The organising board this year de-
cided that the lion’s share of this would
be dedicated to students in the north-
ern mountainous province of Dien Bien,
to mark the 60th anniversary of the his-
toric military victory at Dien Bien Phu.
The tournament was co-organised
by
Vietnam Investment Review
and the
Ministry of Planning and Investment’s
(MPI) Foreign Investment Agency.
