According to Nguyen Quang Manh,
director of Cat Viet Travel, the Red River
Delta is a must-visit region. However,
he believes tourism infrastructure and
services are still not up to the standards
of high-end tourists: “We have to do a
lot of things to promote the region to
become a hot spot like Danang, Hoi An
or Phu Quoc, and hopefully the 2013
tourism year will help kick start that,”
he says.
A YEAR OF FESTIVITIES
Culture, sports and tourism activi-
ties in the framework of the Nation-
al Tourism Year 2013 will take place
throughout the year, including 23
events organised by the Ministry of Cul-
ture, Sports and Tourism in coordina-
tion with other ministries, industries
and 12 others organised by the People’s
Committee of Haiphong city. Besides,
many other exciting activities will take
place in the provinces and towns and
cities of the Red River Delta region.
According to Chairman of the
Haiphong City People’s Committee,
Duong Anh Dien, all the cities and prov-
inces of the Red River Delta region have
diverse natural landscapes. “The Na-
tional Tourism Year 2013 will provide
an opportunity for Haiphong and other
cities in the region to strengthen their
regional cooperation and offer more
tourism services,” he says.
Haiphong is to host the second Red
Flamboyant Festival in May; the youth
judo championships and Red River Cui-
sine festival during June; the world sci-
ence conference and a beach volleyball
championship in July; a boxing champi-
onship and the Do Son Buffalo fighting
festival in August; a fishing contest and
the National Tour Guide and Hotel Re-
ceptionist Awards in September and Oc-
tober; and many art and photography
exhibitions, as well as cultural activities.
The Quang Ninh province held its
annual Halong Carnaval in Halong City
this April, with a brilliant street pa-
rade and various interesting cultural
activities. Next comes Ninh Binh’s Hoa
Lu Ancient Capital Festival held in the
historical temples of the Dinh and Le
kings, plus the Chu Dau Ancient Pot-
tery Village tourism program in Duong
province.
In July, the Van Don traditional fes-
tival will take place and later, in Sep-
tember, the Kiep Bac festival kicks off.
Hanoi will then launch the Traditional
Craft Village Festival in the capital and
its surrounding Red River Delta prov-
inces in October. Finally, the national
tourism year will end in Haiphong in
December, 2013.
