T
he Red River Delta is as rich cul-
turally as it is fertile. The area is
characterised by verdant green
and yellow rice paddies which
are criss-crossed by conical hat wearing
farmers. Vietnam was one of the earli-
est wet rice farming centres in South-
east Asia and wild rice variations from
centuries ago are still cultivated here.
Ancient people farmed wet rice accord-
ing to the rise and fall of the rivers
that watered their land. The Red River
Delta region is therefore considered a
cradle of the wet rice civilisation and
is proud of its outstanding cultural and
historical value. Numerous significant
architectural relics, traditional festivals
and ancient villages have cemented the
region’s unique and rich culture.
A trip throughout the delta will
introduce you to an exciting mix of
natural, cultural, religious and flavour
adventures. Expect a harmonious com-
bination of sightseeing and leisure, in-
cluding trekking, swimming, kayaking,
caving, farming and biking.
FAVOURABLE TOURISM TERRAIN
The region is unlike any other in
Vietnam, with its combination of moun-
tainous terrain, the river delta and its
island dotted seas.
“We offer a luxurious biking initer-
ary to discover the Hanoi countryside
and the Red River Delta as one of our
highlighted tours due to the region’s
unique and ancient beauty and charms,”
says Pham Ha, CEO of Luxury Travel.
Travellers will ride through farm-
land on their way to the most ancient
pagodas and temples in Vietnam and
traditional craft villages, which are 400
years old.
“Archaeological findings indicate
that the early peoples of the Red River
Delta area were among the first East
Asians to practice agriculture, and by
the first century BC they had achieved
an advanced level of civilisation,” ex-
plains Le Tan Tri, manager of Lac Viet
Travel. Furthermore, of Vietnam’s thou-
sands of annual festivals, most take
place in this region.
