Police in My Tho City in the southern province of Tien Giang on Tuesday announced that they have arrested a local woman on fraud charges.

The police said Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong had left 94 iPhone boxes with bricks inside at a local pawnshop to illegally collect VND960 million ($45,123).

Police from the Criminal Investigation Division on November 7 found Phuong looking suspicious when she arrived at the Vinh Xuan Vy pawnshop to pawn a number of iPhone 4, 4S and 5 boxes.

Dubious about her act, the police invited her to their station for questioning. At the station, Phuong confessed that she had bought fake iPhone boxes containing bricks at Cho Lon market in Ho Chi Minh City’s Chinatown for VND200,000 ($9.4) each.

The 49-year-old woman said that since she had a good relationship with Nguyen Thi Kim Truong, the owner of Vinh Xuan Vy, located on Ly Thuong Kiet Street, she took advantage of their bond to cheat the shop owner.
