Vietnam, Russia prioritise energy cooperation

The National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam pays attention to the energy cooperation between Vietnam and Russia and creates conditions for Russian enterprises to broaden their business in Vietnam , said NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

On January 7, at a m eeting in Hanoi with Vice Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for Energy, Sergei Levchenko, Ngan expressed her delight at the flourishing traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries. She noted that upgrade of their bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership reflects the deep mutual trust between the two countries and meets the demands of the new era.

Ngan suggested the two sides regularly exchange delegations and share experience in parliamentary activities, with priority in science and technology, especially nanotechnology, information technology and new materials.

She said she hopes the Russia State Duma Committee for Energy and the Vietnam NA Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, as well as parliamentary groups from both sides, will continue to foster their cooperation in specific activities that will enhance mutual understanding and the effectiveness of the two parliaments.

Briefing his host on the outcomes of his working sessions with Vietnamese agencies, Levchenko emphasised his committee’s support for cooperation with Vietnam in all fields, including energy.

Earlier that day, Levchenko and his delegation held talks with a group from the Vietnam NA Committee for Science, Technology and Environment led by its Deputy Head, Le Quang Huy.

The two sides agreed that energy cooperation, as affirmed by leaders of the two countries in recent years, is vital. They consented to strengthening mutual support in finance and technology serving oil, gas and energy exploitation.

Besides, they agreed to exchange law making experience, and coordinate with each other to build cooperation content for 2013.

On the same day, Levchenko, who is also President of the Russia-Vietnam friendship parliamentary group, met with President of the Vietnam-Russia friendship parliamentary group and Chairman of the NA Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children, Dao Trong Thi.

They discussed a wide range of issues and affirmed the significant role the two groups play in consolidating the comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

The two sides also outlined their future cooperation programmes that will strengthen exchanges between parliamentarians from both countries.
