Vietnam Report announces top 500 biggest enterprises in Vietnam

Vietnam’s top 500 enterprises were revealed today.

About 20 per cent of enterprises listed last year were removed from the list 2010 with state-owned groups and corporations remained ranking among top 10 biggest enterprises in the country.

Those groups and corporations are Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation, Electricity of Vietnam, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group and Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group.

Vietnam Report said nearly half of enterprises in VNR 500 were state-owned enterprises, implying that state-owned firms still dominated the landscape. Foreign-invested enterprises and private enterprises account 23.8 per cent and 31.2 per cent in the VNR 500 this year.

However, Vietnam Report said the proportion of private enterprises in VNR 500 had increased year after year. The proportions of private enterprises in 2008, 2009 and 2010 were 24, 30 and 31.2 per cent, respectively.

Vietnam Report Joint Stock Company has so far released its fourth Vietnam Report, called VNR 500 since 2006.

Vietnam Report ranks enterprises in VNR500 according to other independent criteria, such as “Top enterprises have biggest benefit”, “Top enterprises have biggest total assets” and “Top enterprises have biggest number of employees”.

VNR500 – Vietnam Top 500 Largest Enterprises by Revenue Ranking Board, the same as Fortune 500 model, is based on research results with international standard of Vietnam Report Joint Stock Company with the consultant of Vietnamese and international experts, consulted especially by Professor John Quelch, vice president of Harvard Business School.
