Pepper export value marked a fivefold rise in 2011 from 2000, attaining an annual average growth rate of 15.8 pct.
In the first ten months of 2012, pepper export posted a high value growth of almost 19 pct though there was a sharp drop of volume, around 15 pct.
Robust increase in pepper cultivated area was mainly attributed to the mentioned above outcomes.
Pepper growing area in the country reached 55,400 hectares in 2011, representing nearly eight-fold rise from 2000 when it was only 7,000 hectares.
Pepper output in 2011 was 11.8 times higher than 1995 thanks to better farming techniques.
Pepper export jumped from 34,200 tons in 2000 to 123,800 tons in 2011, 3.6 times higher than the 2000 figure.
So far, Vietnamese pepper is sold in many countries and territories around the world.
Since the beginning of the year, Viet Nam’s biggest pepper importers include the US, with $91 million, Germany, $67 million, and the UAE, $57.5 million.
Experts proposed better planning to sustainably develop the pepper sector and more attentions given to raising the quality of processed pepper to increase export value.
