State President starts official visit to Sri Lanka

A welcome ceremony was solemly held by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse right at the airport.

During his stay, State President Sang is scheduled to meet with Sri Lankan leaders and witness the signing ceremony of cooperative documents regarding politics, national defense, investment, finance, education and training, and machinery.

Local media said this is the first visit made by a Vietnamese Head of State to Sri Lanka since 1970 when the two countries set up diplomatic ties, saying that the visit would help accelerate the bilateral economic ties.

Two way trade rose to over $93 million in 2010 from $30.1 million in 2000. In terms of investment, Sri Lanka has seven projects in Việt Nam with total registered capital of $13.5 million.
