State President leaves for APEC Summit

State President Truong Tan Sang on Sunday left Ha Noi for the 21st APEC Summit in Bali, Indonesia at the invitation of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

  He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Minister of Trade and Industry Vu Huy Hoang, and Chairman of the Presidential Office Dao Viet Trung.

This year’s summit, scheduled from October 6-8, aims to ensure that the Asia-Pacific region maintains robust economic growth and resilience, and able to swiftly recover from shocks and contagions from other regions.

The theme of the summit “Resilient Asia-Pacific, Engine of Global Growth” is further translated into three priorities related to the attainment of the Bogor Goals, the achievement of sustainable growth with equity, and the promotion of connectivity.

APEC is a group of 21 economies which account for 52% of land, 59% of population, 70% natural resources, 57% GDP and over 50% trade value of the world.
