This is his first foreign visit since he was elected the State President.

The Vietnamese leader will also pay State visit to Malaysia from September 28-30 at the invitation of Malaysian King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Billah Shah.

State President Sang’s visits to Singapore and Malaysia reflect Vietnam’s consistent policy of attaching importance to the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with the two neighboring countries in both bilateral and multi-lateral aspects.

Vietnam and Singapore established diplomatic relations on August 1, 1973. The former opened its Embassy in December 1991 while the latter opened its Embassy in September 1992.

Since 1996, Singapore has been one of the top trade and investment partners in Vietnam. The two-way trade turnover reached $6.2 billion in 2010.

By July 2011, Singapore has 937 projects with total registered capital of over $23 billion. Of the figure, $6.67 billion have been disbursed.

Meanwhile, Vietnam and Malaysia established diplomatic ties on March 30, 1973. Both sides opened Embassies in respective countries three years later.

Malaysia is now Vietnam’s 9th biggest trade partner. The bilateral trade volume surged to $4 billion in 2009, and US $5.5 billion last year.

Malaysia ranks 5th biggest investor in Vietnam. Malaysian businesses have poured some $18.8 billion in 386 projects here.
