Party Central Committee opens 7th plenary session

During the session, scheduled to run through May 11, the Party Central Committee will discuss continued renovation and improvement of the political system from the central to local levels.

The Committee will also steer discussions on comments on the draft version of the 1992 Constitution, implementation of the Resolution on Party building adopted at the 4th session, strategic-level human resource planning, climate change adaptation, acceleration of the protection of natural resources and environment.

Regarding the renovation and improvement of the political system, participants need to find out the reasons why administrative reform has not been effectively carried out, said Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in his remarks at the opening ceremony.

Party leader Trong said Vietnamese people, including those residing abroad, have contributed whole-hearted, constructive and practical opinions to the revised version of the 1992 Constitution.

Our mission is to seriously deliberate on the summary report submitted by the Committee for Drafting Amendments to the 1992 Constitution, he added.

For human resource work, the Politburo has directed the formulation of the draft project on planning for strategic-level officials for the 2016-2021 tenure and the following ones, according to Trong.

The Party Central Committee was requested to comment on principles, criteria, and approach of selecting high-ranking officials.

In terms of climate change adaptation and protection of natural resources and environment, Trong affirmed that the Party and State have always attached importance to regulating these areas, considering them as key tasks.

He urged the participants to thoroughly discuss orientations to concretize the stance of the 11th National Party Congress on sustainable development.
