National team holds third position in SEA Games

Vietnam has firmly maintained its third position in the 26th SEA Games’ table rally after the third day of competition.

With seven gold medals grabbed on November 14, the Vietnamese delegation made it 27 in total, with eight less than Thailand who stand in the second place and 33 more to reach host Indonesia on top.

Vovinam (Vietnamese martial art) team was the most successful with three gold medals.

Vo Nguyen Linh pocketed his second gold of the day in the men’s individual under 55kg after beating Cambodian Tin Pheap in the final. Earlier, in a group with four other team mates he succeeded in the men’s team performance event.

One minute later, Tran Khanh Trang triumphed in the women’s under 50kg category.

Wrestlers started their tournament with the first gold went to Khong Van Khoa who defeated his Philipine rival 5-0 in the final match of the under 74kg event.

In fencing, Tran Thi Len won 15-9 over Isnawaty Sir Idar of Indonesia in the women’s epee event.

In gymnastics, Phan Thi Ha Thanh satisfied her fans with a gold medal in the womne’s all-round event.

Tran Hue Hoa had a great triple jump of 13.76 to win her first ever SEA Games titles.

Later Nguyen Truong Giang added the sixth gold for the track team after his 69.07m win in the men’s javelin.

Sharpshooter Hoang Xuan Vinh took the gold medal in the men’s 10m air pistol event.

The pentaque (iron bowling) team also bagged a gold medal in the team event.
