The Ministry of Finance (MoF) recently asked public agencies to suspend import of foreign automobiles in an effort to ease trade deficit.

According to the MoF’s latest decision that took effect since November 30, 2010, State agencies, armed forces, socio-economic organizations, and State-owned enterprises are not allowed to import foreign cars for public purposes.

However, the MoF still permits the purchase by Vietnamese representative agencies in foreign countries, or made under international agreements.

The import of vehicles for national defense, diplomatic and special purposes  is also permitted.

Noticeably, procurement contracts inked before November 30 are still implemented./.
