Vietnamese U23 football team and the head coach met Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the Government Office this afternoon after five hours parading through the sea of fans on the streets of Hanoi.

The U23 squad was expected to arrive to the government office at 2 PM to meet Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc but they could only enter the city centre at 6.30 PM.

According to the Vietnamese Government Portal, “The prime minister has never waited for such a long time for anyone before, but it was worth as the success of the national team is a great joy for the whole nation. This was the first time a Vietnamese soccer team has advanced to the AFC U23 Championship.”

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the prime minister handed out the First Class Labour Medal and merits to the U23 squad. Head coach Park Hang-seo, goal-keeper Bui Tien Dung, and midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai also received the Third Class Labour Medal

PM Phuc said Vietnam's U23 squad has performed exceptionally well in the finals of the AFC 2018 Championship, writing football history in Vietnam

“You have conquered the hearts of over 90 million Vietnamese people,” he said.

The PM lauded the key role of coach Park Hang-seo, who has unlocked the potential of the Vietnamese team and made it possible for them to play such excellent and spirited football

The coach has also made it possible for the two peoples' of Vietnam and South Korea to get closer to each other than ever before
