Vietnam’s macro trends that include sustainable urbanisation, clean energy, and a rising middle class provide Honeywell with unprecedented opportunities for developing and delivering innovative “connected” products, services, and solutions in Vietnam that help address the country’s challenges intelligently.

Mai Trang Thanh, president of Honeywell Indochina, talked to VIR’s Hong Anh about the significance of the cooperation between Honeywell and VinaCapital to introduce Honeywell’s Smart Home products and Solutions in the Vietnamese market.

Why did you choose to partner up with VinaCapital to introduce your Smart Home products and solutions?

VinaCapital is a leading investment management and real estate development firm in Vietnam, with a diversified portfolio and $1.3 billion in assets under management. They have also managed three closed-end funds trading on the AIM Market of the London Stock Exchange.

VinaLiving homes and communities are backed by VinaCapital. VinaLiving is Vietnam's first lifestyle and tailored-living brand that caters to the newest generation of Vietnamese homeowners. The VinaLiving collection of properties deliver carefully tailored living environments across a range of developments in premium locations, each conceived with the aspirations and lifestyles of homeowners in mind.

Honeywell technology has been installed in over 150 million homes globally, and our solutions help transform the way people live and work around the globe with connected technologies. Therefore, through this close collaboration, we want to bring the two prestigious US brands’ best products to the Vietnamese market.

Who are your target customers in Vietnam?

On one hand, we target male and female end-users aged 25-60 with high income who want to live in stylish, high-quality houses/apartments that ensure comfort and security.

On the other hand, we target real estate investors, developers, constructors, and architects who are interested in US premium smart solutions and products for their projects.

VinaCapital is one of the first developers to use Honeywell’s products and solutions in its high-end real estate projects. They have used our products and solutions in world-class projects, such as The Ocean Villas, The Dune, and Dai Phuoc Lotus. Most recently VinaCapital used Honeywell solutions in the model villa of the Nine South Estates project in South Saigon.

What are the selling points of your products and solutions?

Honeywell’s Smart Home products and solutions make living comfortable, secure, and informed. Honeywell’s connected home solutions let you control digital appliances and indoor heating, lighting, and curtains with just a few presses of the button. The total security solution of the house and the apartment complex enables a safe environment with control access and accurate and prompt alarm notifications during an emergency. In addition, whether users are inside or outside the house, they can monitor and take control through PC, PDA, or mobile phone and will be notified of any event occurring in the house while they are away.

Honeywell is not the first company to launch Smart Home products in Vietnam, what sets you apart from competitors?

Over our more-than-a-decade presence in Vietnam, Honeywell has emerged as a stronger, more global, efficient, and profitable technology developer and manufacturer that consistently outperforms our peers, in good times and bad. This is because of our consistent and relentless focus on our business model, which includes a superb and flexible portfolio for growth, a focus on internal process, and our culture.

Honeywell’s name is synonymous with home comfort and security and we have technology installed in over 150 million homes globally.

At Honeywell, we ensure the commercial and industrial products we make are as robust, elegant, and easy-to-use as the consumer technology we use every day. This means our products are easy to purchase, easy to use, easy to maintain, and easy to get support for when needed.

We want to move from technology-centred innovation to human-centred innovation. We have come to strive for a humane approach to design consumer products that are simple, easy, and elegant.

Our product design effort, the Honeywell User Experience, is fundamentally about building long-term competitive advantage. By applying user-focused design principles to our business and industrial products, we can differentiate Honeywell’s products from competitors’ and improve customer satisfaction and brand loyalty, while at the same time enabling better pricing.

Vietnam certainly has demand for luxurious Smart Home products, services, and solutions, however, the housing demand of low-middle income people is much higher. Will you join this market segment?

Having “Great Positions in Good Industries” is fundamental to Honeywell’s growth strategy.

The world is moving beyond stand-alone devices into an era where seemingly everything is connected. Smart Home/Connected Home is the trend in residential industry.

Honeywell is focusing on the mid segment and key verticals in high-growth region (HGR) countries.
