Global technology and manufacturing giant Honeywell today reaffirmed its commitment to developing global engineering talent with a significant donation of process control technology to Politeknik Enjinering Indorama (PEI) in the West Java province of Indonesia, sponsored by Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company’s corporate citizenship initiative.

The equipment, which was donated by Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS), will help students develop critical skills needed to benefit the country and region’s manufacturing businesses.

PEI was established in 2013 under the corporate social responsibility programme of Indo-Rama Synthetics Tbk, a global producer of textile raw materials. PEI provides world-class, affordable education to about 300 engineering students at no cost or highly-subsidised fees under various scholarship programmes.

The equipment will be used in the Mechatronics Department laboratory, which is designed to reflect actual industry conditions.

“This donation enhances students’ learning, enabling them to gain experience on state of the art technology equipment that is widely used across the industries in which they want to pursue their careers,” said Resdiansyah, director of PEI. “The equipment has already been successfully commissioned and is playing a vital part in providing a world-class curriculum at PEI.”

Honeywell’s donation consisted of three pressure and temperature transmitter units and three demo sets of its HC900 process automation and safety controllers, which are used in boilers, furnaces, kilns, and dryers to unit processing in a wide range of industries.

TUV certified, the HC900 safety system is used in applications such as emergency shutdown, critical controls, burner management systems, pipeline monitoring, and other critical applications.

The equipment will be used for both practical skills training for students at PEI and for research purposes by academic staff at the polytechnic.

In Vietnam, Honeywell annually awards 15 scholarships to students at leading Vietnam universities, further extending the Honeywell’s efforts to boost education in the field of chemical engineering and refining technology in the country.

The 15 scholarships are awarded to five students each from PetroVietnam University, Hanoi University of Science, and Ho Chi Minh University of Technology.

Over the past three years (2013-2015), the total number of scholarships awarded to students has been 45 by Honeywell UOP, a recognised global leader in refining and petrochemical technology.

In addition to the scholarship programme, Honeywell in 2013 partnered with PetroVietnam to establish an Automation College at PetroVietnam University, donating hardware and software from Honeywell Process Solutions to help students learn advanced process control systems hand on.

“Honeywell has a long-standing commitment to developing the next generation of engineering talent across the globe. Through partnerships with long-standing Honeywell clients such as Indorama and Vietnam universities we can help prepare the continued supply of human capital our industries depend on,” said George Buchan, South East Asia sales director, HPS.
