The Finnish embassy this week launched a $220,000 project to improve capacity building for sustainable development, trade and export promotion.

The two-year capacity building project, for Hanoi Women Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (Association) members, ensures that the capacity of association’s members will be improved for sustainable development including strengthening their businesses competitiveness, having new business opportunities, promoting exports and overcoming difficulties. The project will run until 2012

“All over the developing world one is speaking more and more of the importance of private partnerships and support to enterprises leading to sustainable growth and development” said Finnish ambassador Pekka Hyvönen.

“In the midst of the Hanoi-Thang Long millennium celebrations this project will turn a new millennium for the Hanoi Women Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and their over 2,000 member companies,” he said.

More than 2,000 association members will directly benefit from the training services provided by the project.

They will be equipped with knowledge on relevant business laws, business management, leadership skills, gender equality in businesses and families as well as import and export opportunities to Finland and European Union and other potential markets.

Some 22 association members will participate in a study trip to Finland that would enable them to learn about Finland’s needs for import and develop business opportunities with Finnish companies.

Between 150-180 member companies will also participate in a trade fair together with Finnish companies.
