ExxonMobil Corporation from the US is eager to co-operate with Vietnamese state-run oil and gas group PetroVietnam to develop the gas-to-power complex located in the central provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.

At a recent working session with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), ExxonMobil requested the MoIT and PetroVietnam to submit the prime minister (PM) its proposal on the price of treated gas so that the investor can accurately calculate the total investment capital as well as the pace of construction.

Besides, the investor urged relevant authorities to complete other procedures so that it can implement the project soon.

According to ExxonMobil’s representative, the investor completed a brief report on the construction progress as well as the investment cost based on the price of gas exploited from Ca Voi Xanh (Blue Whale) gas field.

Previously, the investor expressed its interest in developing the project by visiting both Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces to survey the investment location.

The two provinces made great efforts to win ExxonMobil’s investment due to the complex’s large scale and the involvement of the world-leading oil and gas group. In the latest development, the PM approved the project location.

Accordingly, the landfall location of the gas pipeline stemming from Ca Voi Xanh gas field and the gas processing plant will be located at Chu Lai open economic zone (EZ), in the central province of Quang Nam. Besides, another four gas-to-power plants to be fuelled from the same field, with a total generation capacity of 3,000 megawatts, will be divided equally between Quang Nam’s Nui Thanh district and Quang Ngai’s Dung Quat EZ.

According to the PM’s decision, both Quang Nam and Quang Ngai will benefit from the project, especially Chu Lai open EZ and Dung Quat EZ, which receive development incentives from the government.
