The Deputy PM made that statement at the talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry on the occasion of his official visit to the US from October 1-2.

The two sides lauded the achievements between the two sides, especially since the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership in July 2013.

They exchanged measures to strengthen the relations in the future and agreed to enhance cooperation to launch activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the normalization of U.S-Viet Nam Relations.

Deputy PM Minh proposed the US promote the Trans-Pacific-Partnership negotiations with Viet Nam and provide technical assistance for Viet Nam during the negotiations and in the implementation of the agreement, recognize Viet Nam's market economy and boost cooperation in terms of science-technology, education-training as well as help Viet Nam overcome war consequences.

Mr. Kerry committed to closely coordinating with Viet Nam and other nations in the region to launch projects under the framework of the Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI), including guaranteeing water security in the Mekong Delta.

The US partially lifted a long-time ban on lethal weapon sales to Viet Nam, he added.

The two leaders exchanged issues of international and regional concerns, including issues on the East Sea, proposing that related sides need to seriously follow the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), prevent actions that could escalate tensions in the East Sea and deal with conflicts based on international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.

Earlier, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh held working sessions with US National Security Advisor Susan Rice and US Trade Representative Michael Froman.
