B
inh Dinh is over 600km from Ho
Chi Minh City and 1,000km from
Hanoi. Since Phu Cat Airport was
upgraded to service flights from
the two cities Binh Dinh has become a
more popular destination for tourists.
Instead of just hearing about the
legendary land, it is time to experience it.
Nature has generously gifted
the central coastal province. Its long
coastline is home to many enchanting
beaches, such as Quy Nhon, Hai Giang,
Tan Thanh, Vinh Hoi, Quy Hoa, and
many more. The immense blue sea and
soft white sands are backed by moun-
tains and forests, creating a picturesque
landscape that would be appealing to
any tourist.
Ghenh Rang lagoon, Ham Ho tour-
ist site, Thi Nai Lagoon, Hoi Van mineral
springs and Phuong Mai peninsula are
just some of the many places of charm
and beauty.
And there is more than just nature
here - cultural and historical heritage is
another treasure of the province. Binh
Dinh was the centre of the Champa
civilization from the 10th century to
the 16th. This golden time left many
cultural vestiges, including a cluster of
14 towers that are unique architectural
works that should not be missed. The
moss-green towers remain largely in-
tact, standing tall like a challenge to
the hundreds of years that have passed.
According to Dr Le Dinh Phung,
Duong Long is the highest tower of its
kind in Southeast Asia. Visitors can find
it in Do Ban Citadel, the former capital
of the Champa civilization.
The Quang Trung Museum in town
tells the story of the Tay Son Dynasty
and its establishment by the three Nguy-
en brothers in the 18th century. The
museum stands on land once owned
by King Nguyen Hue and houses many
precious exhibits of the Tay Son Dynasty.
Binh Dinh is also known as the
home of a traditional martial art and
many famous names in literature, such
as Dao Duy Tu, Che Lan Vien, Han Mac
Tu, and Quach Tan. It is also known for
its
tuong
folk singing.
Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provin-
cial People’s Committee, Ho Quoc Dung,
says that Binh Dinh is an important link in
the chain of central region tourism des-
tinations and is key to the region’s tour-
ism development plan towards 2020.
Phuong Mai – Ba Mountain is an impor-
tant aspect of the province’s tourism.
Binh Dinh has launched many tour-
ism promotional policies and plans to
improve infrastructure to attract more
investors. To this end, cultural and his-
torical heritage sites have been main-
tained and upgraded.
Furthermore, the province has also
paid attention to preserving and pro-
moting intangible values, such as fes-
tivals, folk arts, martial arts and handi-
craft villages, to create a rich slew of
tourism products.
“In recent years tourism invest-
ment activities and businesses in Binh
Dinh have become more active with
the launch of a series of high-standard
hotels and many more are being devel-
oped,” said Dung.
It is quite evident that Binh Dinh
does not lack potential for tourism, but
to date it has lacked the ability to capital-
ise on it. The province needs significant
tourism projects and abundant support-
ing products to attract more tourists.
Dung explained that there have
been some difficulties. “This is a hard
economic situation, land clearance has
been slow, and poor transportation is
another obstacle,” he said. “In the long-
term and short term we see tourism as
a key industry for Binh Dinh.”
The largest tourism project to date
is the Vinpearl Hai Giang Complex,
spanning over 600ha and with total
capital of VND3,500 billion. A 1.5km
cable car is also set to provide a boost
within 14 months.
“With the commitment of the Bank
for Investment and Development of Vi-
etnam to support 50 per cent of the
total capital for the project, we believe
the project will soon be completed. We
hope it will make a strong enough im-
pact to herald a breakthrough in the
development of Binh Dinh’s tourism,”
said Mr Dung.
