n the Hai Duong Ford plant there is
a conspicuous lack the smokers one
would normally expect to see in a
Vietnamese workplace. This is part of
the company’s Zero Injuries and Healthy
Employees 24/7 programme.
Besides the factory floor, tobacco
is strictly banned in the canteen. The
plant also organises training courses
and seminars on the disadvantages of
tobacco and so people can share their
experience of quitting.
A medical center and library of-
fer information on tobacco and how
to quit, while rewards for people who
do so are given. Quitting aids such as
patches, gum, acupuncture, hypnosis
and laser therapy are also provided free.
To honour these efforts, Ford Mo-
tors’ global president recently awarded
the factory the Health & Safety Award
under their tobacco-free plant initiative.
Ford Vietnam has also received a
Golden Dragon Award. With the Green
Business theme, this year’s Golden Drag-
on Awards are especially meaningful to
Ford Vietnam, given the company’s in-
vestment into fuel efficiency and envi-
ronmentally friendly products. Ford has
been operating in Vietnam for nearly
20 years, and has received recognition
at the Golden Dragon Awards 12 times.
Previously, the Ministry of Science
and Technology awarded the compa-
ny’s innovative EcoBoost engine. The
EcoBoost engine was used for the first
time in Vietnam in the Ford Fiesta –
the company’s popular small car mod-
el. The introduction of this technol-
ogy forms part of Ford’s commitment
to providing consumers with the most
fuel efficient cars.
Furthermore, Ford Vietnam regu-
larly carries out social and environ-
mental programs, such as its Week of
Global Care and safe driving initiatives.
The company also celebrated its sev-
enth year of the Driving Skills for Life
Program (DSFL) this year. The message
and content of Ford’s DSFL program
has been continually refined to better
suit the local environment and social
context of Vietnamese drivers as well
as to add an increased emphasis on
techniques that help improving fuel
economy, in order for drivers to mini-
mize their environmental footprint,
while helping to save money at the
pump as fuel prices in Vietnam con-
tinue to rise.
In addition to that, Ford Vietnam
has also launched its No Honking cam-
paign to raise awareness about the
prevalent and inappropriate use of ve-
hicle horns in Vietnam and its adverse
effect on road safety. This also aims
to encourage young people to change
their horn usage for a better and safer
traffic culture.
All these efforts and campaigns aim
to make Vietnam’s roads safer and help
all drivers better understand safe and
responsible driving to save lives.
Ford Vietnam is the third biggest
vehicle manufacturer in Vietnam and it
is one of the fastest growing automak-
ers playing a part in helping the recov-
ery of the automotive industry here.
Ford has reaffirmed its commit-
ment to long-term investment in Vi-
etnam, which focuses on training hu-
man resources, equipping plants with
modern facilities, expanding the dealer
network across the country to support
the continued growth of the company,
and providing a world-class customer
service experience.
Ford Vietnam runs many practical campaigns to
help its workers, local people and the environment.
