Thang feels very happy as he
has just been granted a scholar-
ship from locally-owned BAC A
BANK. The 11 year old pupil, studying
at Thuan Son Secondary School, comes
from a rice farming family in Thuan Son
commune in the central province of
Nghe An.
“I am very happy because this is the
first time I have received such a lofty
scholarship. I will try to study harder to
reap bigger rewards so that I can continue
receiving this scholarship,” says Thang.
The scholarship is part of the Vong
tay yeu thuong (shared heart) charita-
ble programme jointly run by Nghe An’s
Children Patronage Fund and BAC A
BANK. The programme raises funds to
support needy but excellent pupils. The
total raised to date is ver VND22 billion
($1 million).
“This is part of our corporate social
responsibility programme. We have un-
dertaken numerous activities over the
past 20 years throughout the country,”
says the bank’s deputy general director,
Chu Nguyen Binh.
Alongside Thang, many other pu-
pils have also received BAC A BANK’s
scholarships. Nguyen Thi Sau Thuong,
aged 7 from Nam Son Primary School
in Nghe An’s Do Luong district, says her
poor family had almost been unable to
afford her continued schooling.
“I dream of becoming a teacher
to teach poor pupils like me. I want
to continue receiving this scholarship,”
she says.
Nguyen Xuan Son, vice chairman
of Nghe An’s People’s Council, describes
the scholarships as very precious: “They
have been a big source of encourage-
ment for the pupils,” she says.
Statistics show that Nghe An cur-
rently has more than 30,000 children
hit by extreme difficulties, including
nearly 13,000 disabled young people
in critical need of operations. Addi-
tionally, the province is also home
to thousands of parentless boys and
girls living in difficulty. Besides, hun-
dreds of poor children are in need of
wheelchairs.
“The province’s budget remains lim-
ited and we highly value BAC A BANK’s
great support. We also call for other en-
terprises, organisations and individuals
to join hands with us in this charitable
journey,” Son said.
The shared heart
In 2014 BAC A BANK will celebrate
20 years of business and it will also
boost its charitable programmes na-
tionwide. The bank will provide five
saving accounts containing VND20 mil-
lion ($952.38) each to soldiers in the
offshore Spratly Islands. Besides, it will
also grant scholarships worth a total of
VND200 million ($9,523) to poor pupils
and students, while allocating VND1 bil-
