CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
DINH VAN HOC
Former University of Na-
tional Economics student
I would like to extend
my sincere thanks to
VIR
and Swing for the Kids’
organising board for hav-
ing supported me during
my studies at the Univer-
sity of National Econom-
ics. A Swing for the Kids
scholarship helped me for
four years at the universi-
ty. I have now graduated
and have a good job at
the Bank for Investment
and Development of Viet-
nam, but the scholarship
is still encouraging me to
work harder.
My father passed away
when I was 15 and then
my mother, who is a rice
farmer, became older and
weaker as she had to feed
me and my younger broth-
er and sisters, who were all
enjoying schooling.
My sister always suf-
fered from illness. At that
time, I thought that only
by studying could I help
my family escape from
poverty. However, after
beginning the studies at
the university, our fam-
ily’s life became more and
more difficult due to high
study costs.
Fortunately, I won a
Swing for the Kids schol-
arship, which greatly
helped me.
THAO SEO SI
Thai Nguyen Agriculture
and Forestry University
first-year student
I am in my first year at
the Thai Nguyen Agricul-
ture and Forestry Universi-
ty. I am very happy to have
received a Swing for the
Kids scholarship because
my family is very poor. I am
the youngest son of a sev-
en-member family whose
income totally depends
on maize cultivation. My
mother, who used to be
the family’s bread-winner,
passed away in 2012, while
my father is rather old and
suffering from some seri-
ous diseases. My siblings
have married and are liv-
ing very far frommy home.
I thought about dropping
schooling, but the schol-
arship has encouraged me
to continue. I will use the
scholarship to buy study-
ing materials. I will try to
study harder to meet the
organising board’s expec-
tations and become a good
citizen contributing to na-
tional development.
NGUYEN THI PHUONG
Former Public Health Uni-
versity student in Hanoi
I am working for a
non-governmental organi-
sation supporting the disa-
bled and the poor in Ha-
noi. My job now is to raise
funds to assist the disabled
and the poor.
I received a Swing
for the Kids scholarship
for three years during
my studies at the Public
Health University in Ha-
noi. When I first passed
the entrance examination
to the university all of my
brothers and sisters were
studying at their universi-
ties and then my father
suddenly passed away.
Fortunately,
VIR
gave me
a Swing for the kids schol-
arship. My family was
very happy at the news.
My successful job
now is partly thanks to the
scholarship. I hope that
more students will receive
such scholarships.
LE KHAC HIEP
Vingroup’s vice chairman
Being one of the
first enterprises to par-
ticipate in Swing for the
Kids, Vingroup remains
committed to continue
its long-term coopera-
tion with this tourna-
ment. This year, Ving-
roup is the tournament’s
Platinum sponsor, with
its support coming from
the group’s Thien Tam
(Kind Heart) Founda-
tion, established in Oc-
tober 2006.
Swing for the Kids
is an annual charitable
golf tournament which
calls for support from
Vietnam-based
enter-
prises for needy pupils
and students so that
they can continue with
their studies. This is in-
line with Vincom’s sus-
tainable development
strategy and its humani-
tarian aims.
It also offers oppor-
tunities for businessmen
and golfers to meet and
exchange ideas about
business and golf tech-
niques. Swing for the
Kids has been organised
very well and remains
greatly significant to
poor pupils and stu-
dents with good study
achievement records.
Vingroup will contin-
ue supporting
Vietnam
Investment Review
’s golf
tournaments in the com-
ing years.
