in north-central Thanh Hoa province’s
Tinh Gia district and provided computer
rooms to many schools.
Funds have also been used to help
children with school items and also to
build a canteen for Pa Tan Second-
ary School in Sin Ho district’s Pa Tan
commune in the mountainous northern
province of Lai Chau.
For children in highland areas, go-
ing to school is often a challenging task
due to the long distance from their
home. Besides, many of them come
from poor families which can barely
afford for their children to go to school.
According to Pa Tan school’s direc-
tor Vu Thi Van, the school has over
200 students, 80 of whom come from
the Hmong ethnic minority group. The
students only have part of the expenses
supported by the state and the remain-
der has to be paid by their families and
the school.
With support from local govern-
ment, donors and also help from Pa
Tan Post border soldiers, the school has
built a hostel for the children.
“We will use the Swing for the Kids
funding to build a canteen and associ-
ated kitchen for the school to provide
the kids with warm meals,” says Van.
The charitable golf tournament has
drawn a lot of attention from domestic
and foreign businesses. TH Group has
decided to donate 12,000 cartons of
milk to students in provinces such as
Hoa Binh, Hung Yen, Thai Binh and
Quang Tri.
This year BRG Group and SeABank
have decided to scale up their sponsor-
ship to become the Diamond sponsors.
Apart from fully funding the golf
course costs, the awards banquet and
giving a sum to the Swing for the Kids
scholarship fund, BRG Group and SeA-
Bank will continue upholding the fund
through scholarship provision from
SeABank’s scholarship fund.
Vingroup has been part of the giv-
ing since the very first year, and this
year the business continue its role as
Platinum sponsor. Vingroup has provid-
ed significant financial contributions via
its Thien Tam (Kind Heart) Foundation.
Swing for the Kids 2014 is also
indebted to KinderWorld which has
joined the tournament for the last two
years as Gold sponsor.
Many other sponsors have commit-
ted to joining Swing for the Kids 2014
and it is hoped that still more will add
their contributions with support in kind
or cash to help provide more scholar-
ships to high achieving needy students
throughout the country.
This year, Swing for the Kids char-
ity golf tournament, co-organised
by the VIR and Ministry of Planning
and Investment’s Foreign Investment
Agency, will tee-off on April 27 at the
scenic Kings’ Island golf resort in Son
Tay, Hanoi.
The tournament will begin at
noon with the participation of about
144 golfers.
The awards ceremony will take
place at 6pm on the same day at the
Kings’ Island Golf Club.
