scenic beauty is complemented by its
great biological diversity.
Nearby, Bai Tu Long Bay is also
an ideal seascape for tourism develop-
ment. It is as beautiful as Halong Bay,
but remains totally untapped.
Quang Ninh has great potential
for spiritual tourism thanks to Yen Tu
Moutain. Sacred to Vietnam’s millions
of Buddhists, Yen Tu Mountain boasts
breathtaking scenery and hundreds
of temples.
The provincial people’s commit-
tee has announced that Quang Ninh’s
green growth will be based on sustain-
able development which is specific to
each area. In terms of industry, Quang
Ninh will focus on promoting the de-
velopment of clean, high-tech indus-
try. The coal mining, thermoelectricity,
ship building and construction materi-
als industries will be developed based
on consistent environmental protec-
tion. In addition, the industrial zones
will be planned and expanded to the
north and west, contributing to rural
industrialization in order to minimise
environmental conflicts.
“The potential and strength of tour-
ist services will be exploited compre-
hensively, especially Halong Bay, in the
drive toward an entertainment industry
in the near future,” said Chinh.
Last year, the province signed
an agreement with the US consult-
ing firm Boston-BCG to make a com-
prehensive plan for tourism to 2020
allowing Quang Ninh to develop a
sustainable tourism industry. But that
is the long-term plan; right now, the
province also has activities underway
to improve the industry. Ha Quang
Long, director of the provincial De-
partment of Culture, Sports and Tour-
ism, says diversifying the experiences
available to visitors is the cornerstone
of a major new plan to revitalise the
tourism industry in the northern prov-
ince in 2014.
Recently, the province conducted
a pilot programme in which it invited
domestic and foreign travel agencies
and journalists to join familiariza-
tion tours with the aim of encourag-
