tury. Key members included Ngo Loi,

More than six years ago, the local
government built a sealed road for cars
near the mountain top. Furthermore,
the area has been connected to the
power system and construction of a
cable car system has begun. This will
climb to 550m and 89 carriages will
have a capacity of 2,000 passengers
per hour.
MYSTERIOUS LEGENDS
Mysterious footprints have been
found in the rock of the That Son moun-
tain range. Local residents assume fair-
ies made them. Halfway to the peak of
Co To, San Tien (fairy ground) is home
to one such footprint. Another of the
same size was found in the rock bed
of Thanh Long waterfall on the Cam
Mountain. These two big footprints,
one for the right foot and one for the
left, each many kilometres from each is
regarded as unexplainable by the locals.
The area is also home to diverse
historical and cultural relics, such as Oc
Eo and dozens of rare herb and flower
varieties. In the past couple of years,
That Son took the lead in attracting
visitors to the Mekong Delta. Last year
alone, nearly six million visitors went to
An Giang province, contributing millions
of US dollars to the provincial budget.
The road system leading to and
around An Giang province has been
constantly improved so that it can ac-
commodate big cars so the province
can tap its enormous tourism potential.
According to An Giang Department
of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s deputy
director, Pham The Trieu, the province
just finalised its draft tourism devel-
opment planning towards 2020 with
vision towards 2030. This sets out an
ambitious target of reaching 8-10 mil-
lion visitors per year. The province will
scale up efforts to call for investors in
order to promote its vast tourism po-
tential, particularly discovery and high
water season tours.
