REVIEW
Over three days in late
August and early September,
the Hanoi Fukuoka Fair 2013
commemorated 40 years of
diplomatic ties between Ja-
pan and Vietnam.
Oganised by Fukuoka
province’s Youth Asian
Cultural Centre, the Hanoi
Fukuoka Fair 2013 included
various activities like Haka-
ta dance, traditional folk
songs, karaoke and even a
flashmob.
Cosplay, short for cos-
tume play, also featured.
This is a unique Japanese
performance art in which
participants wear costumes
and accessories adapted
from a specific character
from manga, anime, comic
books, video games or films.
Visitors also had a
chance to enjoy special cui-
sine, such as yame tea and
Fukuoka cake. They could
also play traditional Japa-
nese games and enjoy cal-
ligraphy demonstrations.
In addition, making
Japanese toys and origami
paper folding attracted
many young Vietnamese.
Hanoi Fukuoka Fair
2013 was a part of a six-day
delegation of Japanese who
came to celebrate five years
of diplomatic relations be-
tween Hanoi and Fukuoka.
The two sides agreed
to create favourable living
environments by develop-
ing human resources and
education, raising people’s
awareness and exchanging
specialised technology and
experience.
They also agreed to
enhance
co-operation
and exchange activities
between younger genera-
tions and between busi-
ness communities.
Chairman of the Hanoi
municipal People’s Com-
mittee, Nguyen The Thao,
and visiting Governor of
Fukuoka prefecture, Oga-
wa Hiroshi, inked a memo-
randum of understanding
on fostering friendship and
cooperation.
At their meeting,Thao
said that in the past years,
the two localities have un-
dertaken an array of pro-
jects and events to further
bilateral ties. He voiced his
hope that Hanoi and Fukuo-
ka will boost their coop-
eration and investment in
trade and tourism, as well
as exchange experience in
building management and
development policies.
For his part, the Japa-
nese guest also expressed
his expectation that both
sides will tighten relations
to reinforce business, tour-
ism and study exchanges.
