T
he Moon Festival, known as
Tet
Trung Thu
in Vietnamese, is a
preliminary for the children’s
Tet Trong Trang
festival. On
this day, the moon is at its biggest and
brightest with some of the most beauti-
ful cool weather of the year.
The
Tet Trong Trang
festival in-
volves the customary procession of
lights,
Trong Trang
and lion dances.
Both festivals are rich in the culture of
Vietnam and tradition. The lion dance
is performed for luck. Each year, pro-
fessionals and children dress up in the
traditional costumes of lion dancers.
These dancers go around the city to
homes and buildings dancing for good
luck. If a home owner lets the lion in to
dance they give lucky money to the lion
to show their gratitude for the dance.
In addition to the
Trong Trang
and the lion dances, the Vietnamese
give each other luxurious cakes. These
cakes are called mooncakes, or
banh
trung thu
. Silk Path Hotel professionally
crafts each of our delectable moon-
cakes by hand in our hotel, making
