THE GOLD COAST IN CENTRAL VIETNAM
GHENH RANG RESORT
The Ghenh Rang resort was long a
favoured getaway for King Bao Dai and
Queen Nam Phuong. Its beach is dec-
orated with huge egg-shaped stones.
Not far away is the modest grave of
poet, Han Mac Tu. Behind it is a memo-
rial house containing many photos and
documents detailing his life. A stroll
along Tien Sa beach is also rewarding.
The area was recognised as national
landscape site in 1991 by the Ministry
of Culture and Information.

CHAM TOWERS
The Cham period left behind a pre-
cious legacy, with thousands of sculp-
tural works and ancient towers stand-
ing solidly against the test of time.
Binh Dinh, is second only to south-
ern Quang Nam province in terms of
towers, with 14 scattered around Tay
Son, Tuy Phuoc, Phu Cat, An Nhon and
Quy Nhon. Most date back to the tenth
century. Thap Doi tower is a unique ex-
ample of the beauty of Cham architec-
ture, recalling the grandeur of Angkor.
PHUONG MAI PENINSULA
East of Thi Nai Lagoon, this penin-
sula acts as a giant screen shielding Quy
Nhon city with mountains projecting 15
km into the sea. North of the peninsula
are beautiful beaches with smooth sand
dunes, crystal waters and endless euca-
lyptus forests. At the south of the pen-
insula many extraordinary caves can be
found containing salangane nests.
Visitors can explore the sand dunes
that rise to 100m, enjoy sand-skiing,
take a dive to admire coral reef beauty
or simply enjoy fresh seafood.

northeast of Quy Nhon city
TAY SON FESTIVAL
Every year on the fourth and fifth
day of the first Lunar month, Binh
Dinh’s people and visitors celebrate the
Tay Son festival, one of the largest fes-
tive occasions of the New Year. Along-
side solemn rituals commemorating the
repelling of Chinese invaders, there are
a host of enthralling events such as Tay
Son martial art performances, a boating
competition, battle drumming, and a
classical opera.
