assist. It provides kids whose families
do not have the means to study with
the opportunity to do so. Some of the
donations may be considered small,
however just VND500,000 is enough
to provide a child in a remote area
with writing materials so it is grate-
fully received. So, the money raised and
distributed provides a very meaningful
contribution to many in Vietnam.
We originally stepped in as the
main sponsor as the previous sponsor
withdrew. Over the years we have seen
the competition grow and the funds
raised increase. The tournament itself
is well organised and so far it has run
smoothly. This is due to the hard work
put in by the staff of
Vietnam Invest-
ment Review
, working closely with the
various golf courses that have hosted
the event.
This year the event will be held at
the King’s Island Golf Course. I’d like to
take this opportunity to thank the BRG
Group for coming in as co-organiser and
for the generous support they have pro-
vided from the King’s Island Golf Course.
The tournament is only the first
step. Next comes the disbursement of
the funds raised. This also takes a lot of
work and we have to thank the staff of
VIR
and the Vietnam Learning Promo-
tion Association for their efforts. The
funds disbursement is very transparent
and detailed accounts of distributions
are provided to the sponsors.
In Vietnam, many charitable pro-
grams run on a micro level. There
are many companies and organisations
that raise funds for a specific project,
school or local community. We should
applaud and recognise all of these.
What is perhaps most impressive about
the people involved in such programs,
and others like Blue Dragon and KOTO,
is that they give not only money, but
also that most precious of commodi-
ties – their time.
