REVIEW
The high standard
of environmental perfor-
mance practiced by Meliá
Hanoi has recently been
recognised by EarthCheck,
the world’s leading certifier
of green travel and tourism
organisations. Meliá Hanoi
has joined industry leaders
from more than 65 coun-
tries by being awarded
EarthCheck Silver Certified
status. To gain this, they
have had to report their
environmental footprint to
independent auditors and
adhere to internationally
recognised best practice
standards.
Southeast Asia Nutri-
tion Surveys has revealed
that
malnutrition
and
micro-nutrient deficiency
remain major concerns for
the children of Vietnam.
According to the survey,
underweight and stunting
continue to be a problem
with 24.3 per cent among
urban children and 45.5
per cent among rural chil-
dren. At the same time,
results also highlighted
that the diets lacked many
key micronutrients that are
necessary for comprehen-
sive growth and develop-
ment. More than half the
children were seen to have
deficient intakes of vitamin
A, B1, C, D and iron.

and Malaysia.

Saigon, Teo was the general

viced Suites, Kuala Lumpur,
where he significantly im-
proved the business perfor-
mance of the property and

operational
efficiencies to enhance ser-

Located close to the Tan

Germany will provide
Vietnam with $1.3 million
to clean up mines and unex-
ploded ordnance in the cen-
tral provinces of Quang Tri,
Thua Thien Hue and Quang
Binh this year, according
to the German embassy in
Hanoi. The Solidarity Ser-
vice International (SODI), a
German non-governmental
organisation, has co-ordi-
nated with the Vietnam-
ese Military and local au-
thorities to implement the
projects.
Over the years, SODI
groups have discovered
19,275 explosive devices in
Quang Tri and Thua Thien
Hue provinces. In 2012, the
organisation helped clean
up landmines on nearly
275 hectares of land which
will be used for agricultural
production,
resettlement
and infrastructure construc-
tion. This is the 15th year
the German Foreign Office
has helped Vietnam resolve
the consequences of war,
contributing to improving
living conditions in the cen-
tral region. Since 1998, the
German Foreign Office has
provided $13.7 million for
bomb and mine clearance
projects in the region.
