SACOM Investment and
Development
Corporation
has announced the opening
of a new golf course integrat-
ed in the complex of SACOM
resort in the Central High-
lands province of Lam Dong.
A peninsula area includes a
five star resort, Tuyen Lam
Lake view villas and marina
villas. Nearby, set around an
old forest, are an 18 hole golf
course, golf driving range,
golf club house and a five star
hotel. The course is expected
to open in July this year.
Vietnam Airlines has an-
nounced an adjustment to
the schedule of thousands of
flights arriving and departing
from Tan Son Nhat Interna-
tional Airport from February
25 to October 25, 2013 due
to runway repairs. Almost
1,000 peak time domestic
flights between Ho Chi Minh
City and Hanoi, Thanh Hoa,
Vinh, Dong Hoi, Hue, Dan-
ang, Quy Nhon, Da Lat, Buon
Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Nha Trang
and Phu Quoc will be af-
fected. Besides the change of
times, the number of flights
will be reduced and there
may be longer waiting times
for take-off and landing.
The heated race to be-
come the 2013-2014 Viet-
nam Tourism Ambassador
between the former holder
and some fresh candidates
is attracting much atten-
tion. The candidates include
actress/businesswoman Ly
Nha Ky, the current ambas-
sador and Huynh Thi Ngoc
Han, a lesser-known beauty
with two master’s degrees.
Han thus far seems less-pop-
ular, plus she is not living in
Vietnam.
Though there are mixed
opinions on Ky’s performance
last year, according to Nguy-
en Van Tinh, head of the
International
Cooperation
Office under the Ministry of
Culture, Sports and Tourism,
Ky made remarkable con-
tributions to the promotion
of Vietnam’s tourism during
her term. According to Tinh,
the ambassador must be fa-
mous, professionally success-
ful, knowledgeable about
Vietnamese culture, history
and tourism, active in social
work, and capable of mobiliz-
ing financial support for the
country’s tourism promotion
activities.
“The ambassador must
also sacrifice a lot in terms
of money and time, which
is one of Ky’s key strengths,”
he added.
After more than one year
of construction, the third ca-
ble car system at Ba Na Hills
Resort will come into service
from March 29. This is the
only cable car system in the
world to net four Guinness
World Records. It has the
longest single-rope cable at
5,771 meters and the system
is recognised as the world’s
longest non-stop cable car
system at 11,587 meters. It
also has the heaviest cable
roll at about 141.2 tons. The
system will help shorten the
travel time from the foot of
the mountain to the peak to
just 17 minutes. It includes
86 cabins designed for ten
people totalling a capacity of
1,500 passengers an hour.
Its construction cost around
30 million euros.
Ba Na Hills is 25 km west
of Danang.
