Inspiration comes in
many forms and at Renais-
sance International School
Saigon, inspiration and per-
sonal growth are nurtured
so students blossom within
the halls of the school to
their full potential.
As part of the commu-
nity project in her IB Diploma
Programme, Vicky took an
interest in an orphanage
located in Go Vap district,
after a supervised visit ar-
ranged by one of her teach-
ers, Laura Baines.
After the initial visit to
the orphanage, where the
students cared for young ba-
bies, a flame was lit inside
Vicky’s heart. Further visits
and inquiries into the over-
all health of the institution
and the children in its care
led Vicky to discover one
ailing student, Quang, who
required near immediate
and urgent heart surgery.
If neglected, young Quang
would not survive.
Vicky, her classmates,
and the initial visiting teach-
er, Baines, combined forces
and brought the matter to
the attention of the head of
Renaissance. Many hearts
came together to help heal
one. The students, staff, and
faculty all helped to arrange
several charity benefits to
pay for Quang’s surgery, such
as “Carols by Candlelight” and
a band festival, where Vicky
and her classmates invited
rock bands from various in-
ternational schools in Ho Chi
Minh City to play a benefit
concert at Renaissance.
Both charity events
raised over VND70 million -
more than enough to pay
for Quang’s surgery, so the
remainder was donated the
orphanage.
