Music festival
A new experimental
music festival will be held
in Vietnam from November
20 to December 8 with 50
extraordinary international
and national musicians
from countries including
the UK, Germany, Italy,
France and Scandinavia.

Homelands
The
dan tranh
is a tra-
ditional instrument played
by Nguyen Thanh Thuy. To-
gether with Stefan Östersjö
and Matthew Sansom of the
Landscape Quartet, Thuy
has put together a perfo-
maance that captures the
essence of his homeland,
Bac Ninh province. At Man-
zi, Phan Huy Ich, Hanoi.
Sen Viet
Vietnamese
artist
Dang Phuong Viet is dis-
playing a new solo show,
Sen Viet. Viet is famous for
his lotus flower works. His
special oil painting tech-
nique and use of colours
create modern interpreta-
tions on this commonly
mined theme. At Casa Ita-
lia, 18 Le Phung Hieu, Ha-
noi to December 9.
Christmas carols
The Goethe-Institut is
celebrating the end of the
year with the compositions
of Johann Sebastian Bach,
Praetorius and renowned
Christmas songs to sing
along with in the tranquil at-
mosphere of the courtyard.
Singers of the International
Choir and young musicians
from Hanoi with wow au-
diences. This year, for the
second time, a concert also
takes place at the opera
house in Haiphong. The
concert will be held in the
Courtyard of the Goethe,
56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ha-
noi on December 6 and the
Opera House Haiphong, 27
Tran Hung Dao, Haiphong
on December 7.
WHAT’S ON
Forever in one’s soul
To commemorate the
40th anniversary of Japan-
Vietnam diplomatic rela-
tions, Japanese painter
Toba Mika is displaying 31
pictures depicting the life of
Vietnamese people. These
are works she has created
over the last 20 years us-
ing the Japanese artform of
katazome. Until December
15 at the Fine Arts Museum
of Ho Chi Minh City.
A night of Russian mu-
sic will see a collaboration
between the Strings of Vi-
etnam National Academy
of Music and the dancers
of the Vietnam National
College of Ballet. Outstand-
ing artists such as Ngo Van
Thanh, Tran Thu Ha and
Nguyen Van Quang will be
on stage. December 12 at
Hanoi Opera House, 1 Trang
Tien street. Ticket prices:

Autochrome
The Autochrome ex-
hibition consists of 60
autochromes
designed
by Emmanuel Poisson, a
historian at Paris Diderot
University and Đinh Trong
Hieu, an anthropologist at
French National Centre for
Scientific Research.
The exhibition is at
L’Espace, 24 Trang Tien
street, from December 6,
2013 to January 4, 2014
