The Day Before the
Renaissance
is the latest
show by one of Vietnam’s
most daring conceptual
artists, Hoang Duong
Cam. The exhibition fea-
tures new and rarely seen
works by Hoang, focus-
sing on two bodies of
work: Pinhole, 1972, and
The Bathers. Both are in-
spired by the Renaissance,
a period of history that the
artist equates with person-
al liberation.
Cam’s solo exhibi-
tion is ongoing at Galerie
Quynh, 65 De Tham street,
District 1, Ho Chi Minh City,
until November 9.
Handicraft bazaar
A new market for tra-
ditional artisans and eth-
nic minorities of Vietnam
will take place from 9am to
4.30 pm on Saturday, No-
vember 16 at the Vietnam
Museum for Ethnology,
Nguyen Van Huyen Street,
Cau Giay district, Hanoi.
Admission and mu-
seum entrance fee is
VND40,000 for adults and
VND10,000 for children
In the Midst of Life
During his eight years
training at Hanoi’s Fine
Arts University, Ngo Van
Sac practiced using tradi-
tional media such as char-
coal, silk painting, lacquer,
oils, and more. He is one of
those artists that relishes
technique. His new show,
In the Midst of Life
, is run-
ning until November 25 at
Craig Thomas Gallery, 27 i
Tran Nhat Duat street, Tan
Dinh ward, District 1 Ho
Chi Minh City.
Traditional market
The floating markets of
the south and the moun-
tainous markets of the north
will converge on the capi-
tal as part of the Solidarity-
Vietnam Cultural Heritage
Week, from November 18 to
24 at the Vietnam National
Village for Ethnic Culture
and Tourism in Dong Mo,
Son Tay town, Hanoi.

Japan Inside Me
To celebrate the 40 year
anniversary of diplomatic
relations between Vietnam
and Japan, a lacquer paint-
ing exhibition of Japanese
artist Saeko Ando will be
held in Hanoi. Saeko Ando
has been living in Hanoi for
18 years during which time
she has concentrated on
lacquer painting. Her latest
show,
Japan Inside Me
, will
be held at the Japan Culture
Exchange Foundation at 27
Quang Trung street, Hanoi,
from November 9 to 15.
Old tracks
20 oil paintings by
Vo Van Y are being intro-
duced at Tu Do gallery,
53 Ho Tung Mau street,
Hanoi, until November 24.
A graduate of Gia Dinh Na-
tional Fine Art Institute in
1975, Vo Van Y is display-
ing works which he has
created between 2010
and 2013 in this show
entitled
Old track
. It will
bring people images of
Saigon’s past, with girls,
rivers and landscapes tak-
ing centre stage.
