Between October 28 and 30, the 17th ASEAN Summit and related Summits discussed and made many important decisions on ASEAN’s cooperation and external relations.

Right in the first working day, ASEAN leaders adopted the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity and many important statements, and agreed to bring relations between the bloc and partner countries to new heights.

At the summits and bilateral meetings, leaders highly appreciated Viet Nam’s efforts during the year it assumes the presidency of ASEAN.

In his closing speech, PM Nguyen Tan Dung asserted that the 16th and 17th ASEAN Summits and ASEAN’s joint efforts at all echelons have contributed to the construction of the ASEAN Community by 2015.

ASEAN continues to secure its centrality and is a leading factor to boost the foundation of a dynamic regional structure, said the Vietnamese PM.

He reiterated Viet Nam’s consistent guideline of taking part in ASEAN in an “active, initiative and responsible manner” for an increasingly close and powerful ASEAN.

PM Dung also wished Indonesia, Chair of ASEAN in 2011, to fulfill its missions.
