Vietnam Expo 2017: the land of business opportunities
Vietnam Expo 2017 will be open on December 6-9 in Ho Chi Minh City

The event, which has brought in continued success in trading in its more than 14 years of annual organisation, is expected to be a landmark meeting point for local and international businesses to exchange opportunities for further trade and investment.

Vietnam has been identified as one of the ASEAN markets holding the greatest potential with long-term prospective of growth and incentives through an improved business environment and larger participation of private investment in GDP compared to the 12.9 per cent in 2016.

Vietnam is party to 16 Free Trade Agreements (few of which are currently under negotiation) that helps to expand opportunities and deepen the country’s integration into the world economy.

Vietnam Expo celebrates its 15th anniversary by organising the first-ever large scale exhibition. According to the organiser, in 2015 there were 320 businesses, 520 businesses in 2016, and in 2017 there will be 800 pavilions representing 750 companies from 16 countries and territories, such as India, Taiwan, Germany, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, the US, and China.

The 2016 edition welcomed 11,650 visitors, resulting in thousands of concluded agreements and testifying to the great potential of both the exhibition and the domestic market.

The exhibition—where diversified products are displayed by producers and enterprises—will provide an opportune time to introduce new kinds of products in the coming year and partnership opportunities as well as provide trials for customers who will give feedback on market consumption at the 800 pavilions of different categories, including electronics-electrics, tech devices, equipment and accessories, manufacturing machinery, construction materials, tools, hand tools, interior and exterior decorations, food, beverage, and cosmetics.

Peter Chan, a Singaporean visitor, said: “We come to visit the special country exhibitions every year and this is my third time to Vietnam Expo in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The increasing number of products and categories every year shows that local market demand has been steadily rising.”

There have been 890 registers through the event’s website, e-newsletter, and fan page, with 65 per cent of customers coming from the UK, the US, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Belarus, and Asian countries.

Vietnam Expo in Ho Chi Minh City will welcome more than 140 enterprises of Korea trade promotion organisations, including Gyeonggido Business & Science Accelerator (GBSA), Daejeon Business Agency, Suwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Incheon Business Information Technopark, Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development, and Daegu Technopark Sports Support Center (Daegu Technopark Sports Support Center).

Additionally, the Organising Board celebrates the first-time participation of famous Korean universities, such as SunChon National University, Chosun University, Jeonju University, Chungbuk University, Chungbuk National University, Korea National University of Transportation, Hannam University, and Hoseo University.

The especially large Korea Pavilion—covering an area of 1,260 square metres—is interconnected and will be a landmark to attract visitors. Although South Korean merchants have been working extensively in Vietnam, they expect to find more opportunities through the business matchmaking programmes at the exhibition.

Since 2012, Korea investment has tripled to now stand at $50 billion, becoming the top investor in Vietnam. Bilateral trade turnover has been doubled to $42.8 billion, with spectacular growth reported in processing, manufacturing, communication and information, as well as the property sectors. Top FDI provinces in Vietnam are Hanoi, Haiphong, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City.

This year will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Korea. The two countries have made plentiful achievements in a plethora of fields, contributing to regional and global development and co-operation. Based on these solid foundations, 140 Korean companies wish to introduce new products and services featuring advanced technology, contributing to boosting the bilateral trade turnover to $100 billion by 2020.

Additionally, Taiwan Trade Centre Inc., (TAITRA) arrived as a sponsor to represent well-known products at the Taiwan Pavilion in an attempt to promote producers and dealers.

Taiwan has made tireless efforts in promoting research and development (R&D) with the aim to produce the highest quality and environment-friendly products. Customers will have a chance to browse utilities on display, such as bottle hooks, water bottle racks, as well as mouse and insect traps—all of which have been designed with the environment in mind.

Other items include useful solutions to daily life, such as customised desks for students and offices, luggages for trips, water heaters, fruit washers, R.O water purifier for home or industrial use, towels, and pet food and accessories.

The Taiwan Pavilion will have something for every age group: unique and creative jigsaw puzzles for kids, beauty care treatment with natural medicines and cosmetics, different kinds of stockings and body netting shaped fashion. Additionally, there will be well-known brands attesting to Taiwanese expertise at affordable prices.

Vinexad will also organise side-line events with an aim to maximise trading opportunities during the event’s four days, such as:

(1) Vietnam-China Mechanical Engineering Exchange Programme on December 6

(2) Seminar on economic, trade, and investment co-operation between Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei and Vietnam on December 6;
