|Standard Chartered Vietnam will take the winners of its annual futsal tournament to Anfield|
On September 6, Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam announced the launch of the Standard Chartered Cup 2019 futsal tournament in Vietnam as part of a series of activities to commemorate the bank's 115 years of history this year.
The five-a-side competition will see 130 amateur teams representing the bank’s clients and staff competing for a chance to watch the defending Champions League titleholders, Liverpool FC, play live at their iconic Anfield Stadium in the UK. The winning team will also receive a professional training session at the LFC academy hosted by LFC legends and coaches.
The tournament, which offers free admission to football enthusiasts and spectators, took place in Hanoi on September 7 at the stadium of Hanoi National University of Education, 136 Xuan Thuy, Cau Giay, and will be organised in Ho Chi Minh City on September 14 at Phu Tho Stadium 219, Ly Thuong Kiet, ward 15, District 11. The winning team from Hanoi will fly to Ho Chi Minh City to battle for the title of champion against the winner of the Ho Chi Minh City leg on September 14.
Former LFC midfielder John Barnes, who will be on an official visit to Vietnam on September 13-14, will attend the Ho Chi Minh City round. On the sidelines of the tournament, John will hold soccer clinics for adolescent girls who are participating in Standard Chartered’s Goal programme and children of the bank’s clients, partners, and staff. The legend will also spend time to host a lunch with the bank’s clients, engage with fans, and call on the bank’s offices during his stay in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Nirukt Sapru, CEO Vietnam and ASEAN and South Asia Cluster Markets, Standard Chartered Bank, said, “Vietnam’s passion for football is second to none and the recent achievements of the Vietnamese national football teams have been extremely impressive. As the official sponsor of Liverpool Football Club, the bank is delighted to once again bring this money-can’t-buy opportunity to Vietnam, for Vietnamese footballers and football fans.
