Hotel construction has hit new heights as the country struggles to accomodate the rising number of foreign visitors. Vietnam Investment Review looks at the hotels and resorts soon to open across the country.


Saigon Phu Quoc Resort No.2

Construction: to start next year
Description: Phu Quoc is fast becoming a tourist hot spot. At present, the Saigon Phu Quoc, Tropicana and Huong Bien hotels are the only properties on the island. Saigon Phu Quoc Resort has just added 50 rooms, bringing its total to 90 rooms. Saigon Phu Quoc Resort No.2 will be built on the island’s Sao beach. It will be a high-end eco-tourism resort covering 300 hectares with 150 bungalow-style rooms. There will be a golf course, water and mountain sports and other entertainment facilities. Other projects include a wild animal protection area and even an area for performances by Phu Quoc dogs. There are also plans to build another eco-tourism resort on the 10-hectare Mot Island and a scuba diving centre in the An Thoi islands.
Mithrin Hotel
Location: Hung Thang, Cai Dam, Halong Bay, pictured below

Opening: October 2003
Description: The four-star hotel will initially open with 88 suites and rooms which hotel management says are luxuriously designed and appointed. It will have four food and beverage outlets, a business centre, health spa and tennis courts. The hotel commands views of Halong Bay, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site. The area has recently seen a boom in hotel construction, mirroring an increase in tourist numbers. Other hotels set to open in the near future include the four-star, 200-room Halong Dream Hotel. The four-star Saigon Halong and the Royal Villas have been opened recently.


Indochina Resort
Location: Dien Duong, Dien Ban district, Quang Nam province, pictured below

Investment Capital: $30 million
Opening: 2005
Description: This is one of the largest foreign resorts in Quang Nam province, home to Hoi An ancient town and the My Son Cham towers. The five-star Indochina Resort has appointed Bill Bensley to carry out the masterplan and landscaping. The resort commands an exotic but naturally landscaped setting with superb beach and ocean vistas. Almost every villa and room will have a sea view. The hotel and villas will be lushly landscaped and set amongst winding pathways, lagoons and other water features.
