Canadian Consul-General Kyle Nunas welcomed representatives from the Vietnamese high-end food service industry, food retail, and media at the Canadian Delicacies Gala Reception at the Intercontinental Saigon Hotel. The event showcased Canadian delicacies including beef, a diverse selection of fish and seafood from coast-to-coast, maple syrup, apples, blueberries, wine, and craft beer. For the first time, Canadian Dungeness crab was introduced as market access has now been granted for the product in Vietnam.

The highlight of this year’s Canadian Delicacies HCMC event was the participation by representatives from the governments of Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia, as well as the BC Blueberry Council and Ontario Ginseng Growers Association. The event welcomed Keith Colwell, Nova Scotia's Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Nathan Fong, an award-winning food stylist from Vancouver as special guests.

The Canadian Delicacies HCMC event is part of the Consulate General’s series of activities to promote the Canadian agri-food and seafood sector to the Vietnamese market during the month of November. The event also featured a cooking demonstration by chef Nathan Fong. He also hosted a special TV cooking demonstration session using the finest Canadian products with top chefs from the city.

Since 2015, Vietnam has been Canada’s top trading partner among the ASEAN countries with agri- and seafood being an important component of bilateral trade. In 2018, Canadian agri- and seafood exports to Vietnam reached CAD$313 million ($235.68 million). Both countries have implemented the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The CPTPP, which establishes duty-free access for trade in goods between Canada and Vietnam, expects to make high-quality Canadian products more affordable to Vietnamese consumers.
