Japan’s leading retailer Aeon is gearing up to open its first mall in Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City.

The company’s $100 million Aeon Tan Phu Celadon Mall in Tan Phu district will open on January 1, followed by another in Binh Duong next October and a third in Hanoi’s Long Bien district in 2015, said Aeon vice president Oyama Nagahisa.

Toward a spirit of community involvement and environmental protection, Nagahisa led the company’s hometown forest project, along with other Aeon employees as well as Tan Phu district leaders and residents to plant 8,000 trees around the mall on November 25. Around 1,000 people joined the event.

One-third of Celadon Mall’s products will come from Japan, another third will be Vietnamese products, and the rest other imports.

The mall is located in the Celadon City residential project, about 5 kilometres from Tan Son Nhat Airport.

Nagahisa said the company’s forest programme has planted around 10 million trees since its inception in 1991. In Vietnam alone, Aeon has planted 70,000 trees in Hue and plans to expand the activity to other provinces and cities.
