Work on construction of power supply for nuclear power plant starts

The Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) on December 12 started the construction of a power supply system which will serve the building of Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai, who is also the head of the plant’s State steering board said that the target and strategic meaning of nuclear power is to replace thermo power which use fossils and limit the emissions which cause greenhouse effect.

The development of nuclear power projects with large capacity reactors is considered the solution to meet a significant portion of electricity demand for the country's future, he said.

Undergoing 20 years of careful study, the project is being implemented carefully from selecting the construction site and technology to meet the requirements of modernity, safety and efficiency.

The construction of the power supply system is also an important component to serve the main project afterwards.

On behalf of the PM, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai praised the authorities in Ninh Thuan and thanked the people for their support to the construction of nuclear power plants in the province.

He asked the investor, contractor to thoroughly work on the project, which is a national key project.

He said that the EVN has done a good job in managing the construction, ensuring operators, efficient operation when the works are completed. He asked the locality to continue to coordinate security in construction and ensure the safety corridors of power grids in operation as prescribed.

The supply system is one of the major works of infrastructure projects serving the construction projects of nuclear power plants in Ninh Thuan province with many different projects in electricity, water, transportation.

The system includes one 110 kV power grid, running through a 13.63 km route through Phuoc Nam and Phuoc Dinh communes in Thuan Nam District and Phuoc Hai commune in Ninh Phuoc district. It also has an 110/22 kV - 25 MVA transformer station located in Son Hai 1 Hamlet.

So far, the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plants No. 1 and No. 2 have been completed in the feasibility study report and approval dossier place to consult the ministries and the Council of State. Along with the infrastructure projects, the investor has boost human resources training by sending 235 out of 325 students and 24 engineers majoring in nuclear power to study in Russia and Japan.
