When planning for a short journey of one day or so, it is advised that vacationers from HCMC choose destinations in neighboring provinces. If so, making a trip to C3 Hamlet in Ma Da Forest in Dong Nai Province may be worthwhile.

Located in Ma Da Commune, Vinh Cuu District in Dong Nai Province, the hamlet about 80 kilometers from HCMC is a popular destination for self-travelers, who love riding motorbike on winding trails, enjoying free and adventurous experiences with splendid landscapes and taking photos at any stops.

Departing from HCMC, we just headed along National Highway 1A to Tri An T-Junction in Trang Bom District then made a turn to Vinh An Town for about 10 kilometers. Passing through endless green fields, then a lake with many black rugged rocks and an immense cajuput forest, we saw many fishermen fishing in a river.

From that river, riding 15 minutes further, we reached Ma Da Forest which is considered the green lung of the southeast. From the land mark No.15, a basalt soil trail challenged us to conquer in the mist and chill of the dense forest. After about seven kilometers, C3 appeared with old houses under foliages of mango tree lines and friendly residents.

Without hesitation, we asked a local household for a homestay service and they replied us with a lunch with many mouthwatering specialties made of mango, fish and banana. When the full stomach ensured us enough energy to move on, we then visited Tri An Reservoir to enjoy the scenery, swim and make a cruise along the vast lake. We did not forget to go fishing to find some fish for the dinner as well.

When the night came over the small hamlet, we gathered together for gossips. At 9 p.m., the light was turned off and people went to sleep when some insects still buzzed outside and the wind still whispered thought mango leaves. Though the doors were kept open and our motorbikes were not locked, we were still assured to take a sound and safe sleep amidst the forest.
