In the contest, which is part of the annual Practical Money Skills Program held jointly by Visa and the Central Committee of Vietnam Youth Federation (CCVYF), students built, budgeted and carried out a project to raise awareness among students in particular and young people in general of the importance of personal finance management, saving and spending.

The winning team, which organised a flashmob on Nguyen Hue Street in Ho Chi Minh City, an online contest and a conference, received VND30 million ($1,400) and two scholarships from the Sage Brand & Communications Academy.

“I’m happy to see the creativity and the effort the students put in this year. They not only showed the knowledge the students have but also their ability to use means of communications to connect to the target of the programme,” said Sean Preston, Visa country manager for Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.

“The programme has seen remarkable success in its fourth year,” said Le Quoc Phong, secretary of the CCVYF. “Social skills and money management skills are important to help students face financial problems after they graduate. We hope programmes like this will not only help the participating students but also raise awareness of the importance of money management skills in the community.”

In 2013, Visa and the CCVYF signed a three-year memorandum of understanding to deliver financial education programmes to students in Vietnam. Since 2012, Visa and the CCVYF have jointly organised road shows to promote financial literacy awareness and to teach students the basic concepts of spending responsibly while learning to save and budget wisely.
