On November 1 Vinmec Vietnam International General Hospital opened a VND20 billion ($940,000) fertility clinic.

The clinic provides consultancy and health checks for couples before marriage and before pregnancy, examines and treats couples who are unable to conceive, and treats sexually transmitted diseases.

“We are targeting a success rate of between 35 and 50 per cent for in vitro fertilisation, a benchmark similar many Vietnamese fertility clinics,” said Le Thi Phuong Lan, deputy director of the clinic.

Vinmec wants to become a world-class quality hospital chain, Nguyen Thanh Liem, general director of Vinmec, said at the opening ceremony.

Vinmec is located in Hanoi and was developed by Hanoi South Urban Development JSC (an affiliate of Vincom JSC – member of conglomerate Vingroup). Over the next five years Vinmec plans to have 10 hospitals nationwide with one each in Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang slated to start operations in 2015. Vinmec has also developed a medical university that has announced it will start admitting students in 2016.
