Tu will remain in detention for at least four months. Police have also conducted a search at his office and home. Just a few days ago, Vu Khac Tu was suspended from his position at Vinalines.

In early June, the investigation team in Quang Ninh Province detained and began criminal proceedings against three suspects from Quang Ninh Port Company, including deputy director, Dinh Ngoc Uyen, chief accountant, Dong Thi Be and cashier, Bui Thi Tham.

They were accused of faking invoices and other documents in order to misappropriate over VND8 billion between 2011 and 2012. During this time, Vu Khac Tu was acting general director of the company.

Uyen was said to have ordered Be and Tham to create false documents and signatures to misappropriate salary payments. The accused have returned the money pending further investigation.

Vinalines has gained much attention over the corruption case of their former chairman, Duong Chi Dung, who was wanted internationally for the huge losses he caused for the group and the state. Both Dung and the general director were given death sentences.
