Vietsovpetro begins operations at offshore oil rig

Vietsovpetro, a joint Vietnamese-Russian enterprise, began operating the oil rig in the Tho Trang (White Rabbit) offshore oilfield in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on December 7.

The oil and gas exploration facility, ThTC-02, which started operations a month and a half ahead of schedule, is in a 50m-deep water area to the south of the Tho Trang oil field. The rig, designed to accommodate 12 wells, has a capacity of 6,000 tonnes of oil per day and night.

The platform, has a total investment of US$64.2 million, of which the oil rig costs $47.5 million, and the rest is for the underwater pipeline system.

Deputy Director General of the Vietsovpetro Tran Xuan Hoang said the rig had met the quality requirements under the DNV International Accreditation Standards.

With three wells currently operating, the ThTC-02 structure pumps an average 1,100 tonnes of oil a day, making up 7.5 per cent of the company's total output.

General Director of the Vietsovpetro Tu Thanh Nghia said the facility was expected to help the company fulfil its targets from now to 2020.
