Vietnamese women rank 33rd in latest FIFA rankings

The women’s national football team of Vietnam dropped five places to rank 33rd in the latest FIFA rankings.

The drop was attributed to the team missing out on the continent’s last ticket to join the world’s biggest women's football festival – the FIFA Women's World Cup – in Canada next year, after they slumped to a 1-2 defeat against Thailand in their AFC Women’s Asian Cup fifth place play-off at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on May 21.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnam was placed second after Thailand, who rank 29th in the world, while Myanmar retained their third place position in the region and 44th in the world.

World No. 3 Japan still hold the lead in Asia, followed by Australia (No. 9), the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (No. 11), China (No. 13), and the Republic of Korea (No. 18).

The US continued to dominate the world with 2,193 points, ahead of Germany (2,168 points), Japan (2,081 points), France (2046 points) and Sweden (2028 points).
