The tanker is being now being towed to the southern province of Ca Mau by two fishing boats. It went missing on October 2 just after departing from Singapore, en route to Quang Tri Province.

Nguyen Anh Vu, director of the Vietnam Maritime Search & Rescue Coordination Centre, confirmed this information. He added that, according to the captain of the ship, all crew members are alive, but two have been injured.

Earlier, the International Maritime Bureau suspected that the tanker had been attacked by pirates but could not confirm this. Their suspicions were brought on by the rising piracy rates in Southeast Asian waters.

On October 8, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a diplomatic note to Vietnamese embassies in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia requesting that they make joint efforts to search for the missing tanker.
